Getting back to the the whole idea of cross-referencing, this is where you associate your database with your labeled slides and where each labeled slide is located at. If you are using slide pages, this is an example.

This slide page is labeled BI-78, meaning BIrds, page 78. Not too much rocket science involved here. You can basically pick whatever scheme you want, even break it down into sub-categories like Herons, Warblers, etc.

The key is once you have a labeled slide in one of these pages, you must input this page number for each slide in Access. A very easy job if you just skip from record to record and cut & paste.

You can then store your slide pages in a filing cabinet using hanging file folders, using a similar coding scheme you set up for your database. For example, suppose we were searching for images of a Tricolored Heron. You can search the subject field in your Access input form, and it will take you to every match for a Tricolored Heron. Each of these records will tell you which slide page in your files to pull out.
