Winter go away

WI8404.jpgI. am so very ready for winter to be over with  Even though I have accumulated some unique images during the winter months,  this year in particular I just haven’t much of the motivation to get out    Michigan has been through a roller-coaster ride this season – with frequent snow storms followed by spring like days then plunging again below freezing  Crazy stuff   We are yearning for some consistency here     I don’t even want to get into how pitiful the roads have become with new record potholes being found every day   Oddly other states, other countries with the same freeze / thaw conditions have pristine roads, yet our climate is always the excuse for why they are so bad.

It is also a time of year where you can really fall into a rut  So I am thankful I have started my Inspired by Stone project to at least feel like I am producing something to keep that side of my brain active    I am investigating some alternative presentation methods for my prints  I have some more rocks on the way to me, some I still have to photograph, so I think I will have plenty of subject material to last me into spring    And perhaps it is a good thing I don’t feel like going out, gives me more reason to catch up on my guitar practice, do some photography indoors, and try to savor the anticipation for spring   While I am at it with rocks, maybe a pothole project isn’t too far of a stretch.

  1. Mark,

I won’t tell you what the weather is supposed to be like here in California tomorrow. Highs in the lower 70′s. Oops, it slipped out! Sorry about that.

Last summer I shot a lot of images. I knew I would not have time to work on them until the “rainy season” hit. In December and January I had a huge stockpile of photos to work on. It was great.

The bad news is that the weather is heading to spring and I have not finished working the backlog from last summer!

  2. According to last night’s paper, we’re on track for record snowfall this year. Isn’t life grand?

  3. Rob – just for the record, evil people are not allowed to comment on my blog. ;-)

Wren – it is not surprising, someone just told me another 5-10 inches tonight!

  4. Mark, I am eagerly anticipating Spring as well. Nothing nicer than to be out photographing when the Earth comes alive again. Shall we do more trillium again this year?

  5. I feel your pain Mark. I am a spring person even though I’ve been complaining about our lack of snow here in PA. Problem is that March and April here are mostly mud. No real growth until May. I have been festering some ideas for indoor image making as well. Oh, and PA is pretty bad for potholes too. This year though with so little snow/ice things are not so bad.

  6. Hey Mark,

Might be a good opportunity to finally fulfill that long ago commitment of sending a 200-400mm lens for someone. :) :)

It’s actually a gorgeous day here in the old AK.

    Cheers

    Carl

  7. Hey Carl – I seem to remember your end of the deal was to turn me into Eric Clapton. :-)

  8. Howard, you bet – will try the Trillium Challenge again this year.

  9. I hate winter !! I don’t even think snow is beautiful anymore the older I get the more I disdain this time of year, thanks for letting me vent Mark :)

  10. Namaste’ Mark I hear you about the road conditions, and the non consistency of weather. One day it is “Oh I can actually wear a sweater outside! Yipee!” and it may be -2 and the very next be -45 with a windchill and a huge blizzard knocking us over! No kidding wow, I thought we were the only ones that went through such extreme up and downs. I am not one to ever ride the fair ride rollercoasters!

if you ever venture up to my Province just after winter is ending you’ll see exactly what I mean by that! ;0) but be forwarned bring extra tires along! due to our highways. I LOVE this photo though, WOW I feel like I am in the Arctic instead of Michigan with this. Amazing capture!

  11. people always want winter to end before it gets here but in the midst of a winter snow, theres something very soothing and relaxing at looking out your window to a calm, snow fall with not a soul outside and every creature nuzzled in their dens.
