Well it finally happened – I now have more rocks than I have time to photograph them! Having a rock habit is a tough thing to kick, but I am trying. You see so many with potential you just have to have them. I think there may be some local addiction meetings I may need to attend. I had to have a little bit of a fix today and again got absorbed in the amazing patterns they hold.
This is of an Indonesian Flame Agate which has quite striking patterns all over. This is at about 1:1 magnification. The rock is about 4 square inches, so I was able to squeeze many different patterns out of it. I also spent some time with some Red-Hubbard Basin Petrified Wood. Now, instead of photographing them from a tripod, I purchased a copy stand which now makes different magnifications and camera adjustments much more convenient.
Amazing stuff Mark! Absolutely love this image. Would look stunning on a wall as watercolor paper print or maybe a canvas. Glad you are enjoying the rocks, but go slow hey, and don’t drive while intoxicated by those rocks!
Thomas
That is a beautiful one Mark!
Keep on rock’en!
Ron
Don’t worry Mark, … as you are not alone in this rock addiction! : )
By the way, … when you put a link within your post to a certain selection of thumbnail images, the image will not show up for me after clicking on the thumbnail.
But, if I go directly to your web site and then click to that gallery, after clicking on the thumbnails then the image will show.
Just thought I would let you know. It may not be happening to everyone, but will happen to me when directed to them from your blog.
Beautiful images Mark, ….. and keep rock’n!
Ron, Thomas – thanks. Yes, I will be careful about rock’en and driving!
Michael – strange. The thumbnail seems to work on a few different machines. Could you let me know which browser, computer etc?
Mark – I fully understand you – I get sidetracked, addicted, absorbed and whatever you might call it the same way as you but not only by rocks but many other subjects too and I deeply regret that I don’t have at least 2 pair of hands and 2 heads to handle all those wonderful motifs.
Btw – the one above is exeptionally beautiful!!!
Mark, I am using Firefox 2.0.0.7 and Mac OSX 10.2.
I tried it on my son’s new PC, using Firefox, and with the same results.
Love seeing your rock images. I think I may have to pick up the habit at some point!
Remarkable photo Mark. I think this one might be the best yet. You are getting into a nice groove with these and it sounds like your new stand could be of great help.
For some reason, my comment didn’t post. Drat. Now I forgot what I was going to say…But I’m with you with the rock thing. I have multiple containers of rocks all over the house. When I moved to Louisiana from Canada I had to leave many fossils behind (fortunately there are tons of fossils in my old area of Canada that I just pick up one or two whenever I go back for a visit.) Now that I “grok” the macro on my digital computer, I’m going to have to try some of these rock photos, myself!
Dear Mark,
Your blog and photography are out of this world. Maybe if I am very, very good the fairies will bring me an ounce of your talent. Great work!
Chris, Boyd, Lana – thanks. It is quite addicting, so you are forewarned.
Petra – I know what you mean – sometimes it is just an overload.
Verdunolsette – thank you very much – but quite often I feel I could use some of those fairies myself.
Beautiful work Mark, I love the colors in these rocks, great work !!
Mark…fantastic as usual….may I ask where you get your rock samples from….it is hard not to want to try to give it a try seeing the beautiful work you have produced.
