Sorry folks if you have seen the occasional strange comment post get in the blog lately It seems over the past 6 months there is a new type of spammer emerging – actual humans set on getting some type of advertising link into my post comments vs. some other type of automated spam They actually type some type of comment that might be related to the post, but with. ulterior. motives I think Since I can’t monitor 24/7, some of them slip through Since they appear to be posted by some random individual, they sneak past my spam plugin.
What a job that must be – just as bad as a telemarketer I wonder if they pay by the comment or the incoming links they generate?.
So if you see anything strange, or a comment show up to an old post – do not grant them the desired clicks they want I will mark them as evil spammers destined to spend eternity cleaning up cigarette butts on street corners or cleaning the filters of sewage plants as soon as I catch them.
Sadly this is a very common occurrence. I find now they target much older posts in the hope I won’t notice. I’ll have to look up the plug-in I use to notify me of comments. It helps address these types of comments quickly.
Glad to hear I am not alone Jim!
I use that plugin and get the emails – but short of sending them to my iPhone, even those can’t be monitored as close as I would like to.
Quite sad Mark what lengths some people will go to in their foolishness! I’ve had my share of freaks from time to time though it would be hard now as my service monitors my blog.
Yeah – those are an absolute nuisence. For me this counts as vandalism – no-one understands what sense this all makes – the same with computer virusses. What do these people only have in their heads – I sometimes wonder….
Btw – the most wicked thing is that some of these spammers hide behind URL’s such as the BBC. What an energy it takes to create all these mental parasites instead of channeling this energy to something that makes sense!
I can sympathize. Whenever I have a comment within seconds of making a post, I KNOW it’s spam. Fortunately I don’t get many of them.
I get some of them as well Mark. Usually some benign comment followed but a website link for some product. It really amazes me how with every new technology there are always those out to ‘ruin it’ or at least exploit it at others expense. I was always amazed by telemarketers and spam e-mails…but I guess they must earn money or people wouldn’t do it, particularly e-mails…if only 1 in 100000 click or look I guess they are making money.
Have you tried the plugin Simple Trackback Validation. I have found that it helps manage a lot of this type of spam.

We’ve had that nasty person here too. Blogmaster, whoever that is, had complaints about it, but this person changed blog name so quickly that they were not able to catch him/her. That sort of people will always try to spoil things for everyone.
Vandalism is a very good way to put it, Petra. If we could only file criminal charges…
That is so wrong!

Just trying to be funny.
I agree Mark, it is getting very frustrating. To top it off, most WordPress blogs add the no follow tag to the comments, so they are pretty much wasting everyone’s time.

See Ron – those spamming filters let anyone in.
