I was searching through my Lightroom catalog today for a client who was looking for some leaf images and came across this one I had completely forgot about. This is an image where I was playing with some blending modes and a texture. The layered file date is from Dec 2007, and the base image was actually shot in 2006. I have always wanted to spend more time playing around with texture/image combinations, and this old experiment reminded me how interesting they can be. . I always thought these types of images had a certain dimensional feel to them.
If you aren’t familiar with how this is done, it starts with a base image, and on another layer a photograph or some rendering of a texture. . By using the blending modes in Photoshop between layers, some selective masking, and even more layering – you can come up with some very creative combinations.
Anyway, I didn’t want to leave this just sitting in a forgotten folder, and thought I would bring it to my gallery today.
Oh, dear. Just as I was getting accustomed to spending less time in Photoshop.
The color choices are marvelous. Wonderfully rendered. Are you still doing any of this type of work? I enjoy all your images, but I hope we will see more of this work.
Thanks Anita. It is one of those things that has interested me creatively, but I just haven’t dedicated the time to spend doing it with more images. Soon though I will introduce some more.
Nice Mark. I like the tones as well as the texture. It is exciting when you make an image that seemingly defies the limitations of a two-dimensional medium.
Hi Mark, this is absolutely beautiful – as all your work – the colour blue adds some ethereal aspect to this photo as well as the textures – that look like some spiderwebs – add even more delicacy.
Excellent work. I am going to have to give this a try myself. Thanks for the inspiration.
It ´s a lovely picture. I ´ve just bought myself a new camera.. I guess you could call it an early Christmas present. Anyway, I ´d like to be a bit more creative with my pictures, I ´m going to look into all the different ways I can make my pictures a lot more interesting!
Lesley
Thank you very much.
Petra, I thought the same about the blue area.
Mark….I really like the feeling of depth that has been enhanced via the layers. Love the colors as well.
Hi Mark – glad to have run into your site! Your photography is beautiful and I especially love the background of your blog – wow – what an effect!
As for texture photography I experimented a little but have a long, long way to go still. Your picture is beautiful here and I am glad you did not leave it hidden in a folder but shared it with the world
