I think of Eliott Porter’s words above when I am out walking in the woods, seemingly staring down at my feet. It’s a somewhat awkward question to answer a stranger passing by who asks, “What are you taking pictures of?” The chaos of the forest floor is easily dismissed as holding any aesthetic beauty. Still, it cannot be easy to formulate any order for photographing a pile of leaves. It helps to have a clear mind and to be truly present in that moment in the woods. After some time, that order slowly reveals itself, like the woods whispering you a secret.
