Duality Series
A visual exploration project of balance, compliment, and courtship using positives and negatives, symmetry and asymmetry“We are searching for some kind of harmony between two intangibles: a form which we have not yet designed and a context which we cannot properly describe.” ~ Christopher Alexander

Duality is a series of images inspired by my love of the work of M.C.Esher, his play with perception, the balancing forces in nature, and the internal growth of self as we all try to bring some type of order to constant change. I started drawing long before ever taking up photography, and along the way it was displaced by it, but the creative aspects of it linger inside like a small pilot light.
All of these works started with a single image, but over time, I started developing a sense there was more within, more worth exploring. Can positive and negative elements, straight vs. curved, symmetric vs. asymmetric elements live in harmony? Does balance mean static? Can pieces of a single photograph play with others? Some older work is given a new beginning. Maybe it is just giving that pilot light a bit more fuel.
