LE8476.jpgSo I am getting ready for work in the morning and looking out our bedroom window. The sun is just starting to come up. I notice the new leaves on a maple tree in our yard are glowing brilliant orange from being backlit by the sun. (This is a Crimson Maple, where the leaves are normally a deep burgandy color) I immediately think to myself – how cool is that! So it is decision time.. break out that camera or leave on time for work?

Of course I did the right thing. 🙂 I snapped away for a short time in the yard – and end up at work about 15 minutes late. Not that I would ever get in trouble for such a thing, but it does make you think about the possible confrontation.

  • Why are you late?
  • Well you see.. there was this leaf – and it was glowing in my yard..
  • Um ok – please stop by the company psych office before you leave today..

Twenty-Twenty Five

Yearly favorites were harder to choose this past year simply because there weren't many exposures overall. I imagine that's an inherent problem with these yearly favorites posts. It emphasizes product over process in a culture that demands constant output. It can...

Continuing with a tradition that began in 2007, I am once again finalizing some of my favorite images from the past year. I guess you could call this Volume 18. Wow, eighteen years of this stuff.1 Nonetheless, It is a process that forces me to consider which...

Twenty Twenty-three

This past year saw a continuation of a trend that has persisted since the Covid shutdowns - staying very close to home, if not in my backyard for most of my photography. To title this year's Yearly Favorites a series of "Visions of a Hermit" would not be too far off....

    Me?
Late for work because of photography?

Been there, ….. done that! 🙂

Thank you all for making comments. Sure – all you photographers understand. But somehow I think an unsympathetic boss might think differently! 🙂

Mark, I can relate to this 100%. Fortunately, for me, I have flex time, and it sounds like you do, too.

There are many mornings when I’m on the way past my favorite park when it’s just not possible for me to continue on to work without stopping and taking some pictures. I do have to mind the mud, though, and cannot take some pictures that I normally would where I would lie down on the ground! 🙂

Great shot and I’m glad that you decided to be a few minutes late. It resulting in a wonderful picture of a great opportunity!

I completely relate to your story, and it made me laugh out loud!

Guess that’s why eventually I had to start working for myself. It seemed like every nice fall morning I’d always be a bit “later than usual” on my way into work, and then I’d have to think of a reasonable explanation as to WHY. “There was light” doesn’t seem to justify it to the boss!

Eventually, I decided I’d rather be out THERE instead of my cubicle!

Thanks for stopping by and visiting my blog and offering your congrats on my spider web shot. Your blog is lovely in design, and I’m still struggling with layout and so forth on mine. It doesn’t seem to make as much sense as HTML to me. I love your background image in particular. Nice work!

I got a good chuckle out of this one.. and save an extra seat for me at the shrinks office.. I think alot of us would qualify for that one. ;)Beautiful photo- I would have been late too.

One of the principles of nature photography, “never miss a moment”! You did absolutely the right thing,Mark. But I can say that with even more conviction after looking at the picture! It’s glorious!
