This year Spring seems to be coming through like a freight train.   Bloodroot was peaking at this time last year, and now much of it is already gone.   White trillium that normally hits a peak around Mother’s Day is already up and will likely peak within a few days.

Looks like we are running about 3 weeks early this year.   I may try to get some of the bloodroot that is left, but I still have bloodroot images from last year I haven’t processed, so at least I have a backup.  🙂

Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus)

Botany is not one of my strong suits. Perhaps the strongest memory I have of recognizing that is from a hike some years back during a training class on vernal pools. While hiking to one specific pool, one of the class instructors, Ms. Phyllis Higman, a Senior...

Spring Ephemerals

Spring Ephemerals

Spring seems like such a fleeting season here in Michigan.   We strongly yearn for milder temps after what seems like an eternity of Winter but are not quite ready for the humidity and heat of Summer.    We want to bask for a bit in the fresh energy around us.  Though...

Spring Sprung

Well, whaddayaknow, Spring will be coming to Michigan after all.  After hitting the record snowfall mark in Detroit just last week, there were doubts.   Spring energy is certainly in the air now, and wildflowers are reaching up with some pent-up energy.   Snow be...

Our wildflower season is a bit wonky here in moutains on the west coast, as well.

      Thank you Amber.

Bloodroot is so simple & beautiful. Kind of like the supermodel of flowers. Here we have purple passionflower, which is more like the Little Richard of flowers. *L*

Yikes, I’m in trouble if that is the case here as I took off a few days in the beginning of May for wildflowers. Beautiful shot…I really like the way the white flowers pop out against the background.

You probably won’t be in trouble, but if it is anything like around here, you can expect to see some different flowers blooming than you would expect!

Beautiful spring photo. Spring came quickly here as well.

Thanks Tomas – seems to be going quickly all around.

Beautiful image, Mark. Helped lift my spirits tonight, which I needed. I have tomorrow off and hope to get over to Inniswood Garden and see what new flowers are out.

Thanks Monte – lifting someone’s spirits is probably the best anyone could ever ask for in an image!
