M is for Michigan
I suppose it is no surprise for me to pick Michigan for this part of the AtoZ Challenge. I was tempted to pick something unexpected, but I kept coming back. A mid-way point in the challenge that shouldn’t be done half-assed.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people live here, but haven’t been to many areas of the state outside their own locality. Yet, for all I have written about these places over the years, I am finding myself at a loss for many new words to contribute to this post. As always, as cliche as it is, I think the photographs state so much more. So I am keeping this short with photos to illustrate the question “This is Michigan?” 🙂 Never underestimate the unique places in your own state…
- Westward views at sunrise of Presque National Forest, Isle, and Lake Superior, Michigan
- Ice sheets at Twilight, Lake St. Clair, Michigan
- Lover’s Leap Arch – Pictured Rocks
- Silver Lake Dunes
- Five Mile Point
- Bush Bay Limestone, Lake Huron, Michigan Upper Peninsula
- Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

As always, I find your work simply gorgeous! You have such a fine sense of color and composition. I’m enjoying coming back every so often and checking all the posts.
Beautiful images, Mark. I’ve been to southern Michigan a number of times on business and even then I thought it was a beautiful area. Michigan, and especially the northern parts, are one of the areas we want to explore during our RV travels.
I’d bet you two would love it up in the UP for awhile. Just stay away mid-summer bug season.
Absolutely awesome series of your beautiful home state.
I try to represent well Monte. 🙂
A beautiful collection. Your ice photographs make me swoon.
Thank you Linda
You make me want to do just that. Explore! And Michigan is not far from me. Thank you for these beautiful images.

Have a great day!
Good! Mission accomplished! 🙂
Always amazed at how your Michigan photos look like you are shooting in a wonderful and exotic location. I guess that’s the point…..that everyplace can be wonderful and exotic if you look at it with fresh eyes!
I appreciate that Howard. And you are exactly right about the everyplace – sometimes we just need to get out and explore.
