Light.   It’s a fantastic conduit of energy.   It transfers life into so many things.   Light allows plants to grow, produce sugars, and ultimately share energy with consumers.   It impacts how our minds work, how we interpret the world around us, how we feel.   Only recently were observations noted on how the Great Solar Eclipse of 2017 sent ripples through the atmosphere on this tiny blue dot in the universe.   Light, heat, warmth … energy for the awakening.   Energy to create hunger.

I suppose it is no surprise that the ultimate fulfillment of that hunger, the ultimate acquisition of energy, the power over life and death, could be obtained by capturing the power of the ultimate source of light, a star.   Man has worshipped it for centuries, where it once had a place as the central, if not only, deity.    But it was not always a singular source of energy in the sky.

Ancient stories in Chinese culture tell the story of a rotation of 10 suns and ten brothers, where only one was allowed to be present in the sky at a time.   One day, the unruly brothers defied their commandments, and all went into the sky immediately.   The energy was too intense for the Earth, so a massive wasteland emerged.   A legendary archer named Hou Yi drew nine arrows.   Nine fell from the sky.   Nine that likely felt unjustly selected.   Nine that were never expected to be seen again.

As it would seem, a fantastic confluence of historical stories, science, and circumstance is coming together.   The Eclipse of 2017 may seem like old news as we approach 2018, but perhaps it was only the beginning.

A Tree’s Tipping Point

A Tree’s Tipping Point

This week we had to have one of our trees cut down. It was a rather large maple that became infected with Verticillium Wilt and experienced a very rapid decline over the summer. We've been in varying degrees of drought in Michigan all summer and it is persisting to...

A Tree

I could be a tree. What would be in it for me? I could rest all winter long, awakening to bird song. Spring brings renewal, fresh and awake I could have a nice spot, maybe near a lake As I get a bit taller and the world a little smaller My universe less focused on...

Dune Dragons, Part 4

A confluence of historical stories, science, and circumstance is where this story left off in Part 3.   Nine dragons shot down from the sky in banishment.  This rare solar event initiated nine of those absorbing energy in 2017.  All of them are in a...

Who knew what an effect that the eclipse was having? Summoning dragons from their sandy slumber…

Another great series and I too love your stories.

I love the way the ‘dragons’ seem to be emerging from the sand….like they were buried there for centuries and now arise, having been summoned by…..maybe the eclipse?

Happy New Year to you….looking forward to seeing your 2018 creations!

Indeed they are Howard! Little did people know what the eclipse was really doing. Best also to you in 2018, perhaps a year for another Trillium Challenge. 🙂

Ah, now you have me thinking Spring ?

This series is fun, and your stories add to it. They make me linger over the photos to soak up the dragonness that is there. (I’d add to your Likes, but somehow WordPress won’t let me.)

Thanks Linda! I’m not sure why the WP part isn’t working for you. I have had the same trouble on some other sites where it took multiple clicks just to get a “Like” to register. Seems buggy to me.
