November can be a difficult time to find photographic inspiration in Michigan. Typically we refer to it as the ‘season of brown.’ Fall color has past and the snow has yet to fall.
However, this morning yielded many images that I am excited about. Jasper Woods is a Michigan Nature Association sanctuary near Port Huron, filled with hemlock, birch, and a very rich forest floor. Aside from the hemlock, Jasper seemed to fit the image of November, pretty much brown leaves and a brown & green setting.
Looking closer however revealed many interesting textures, some traces of fall colors left behind, and colors of moss and growth now on the bare trees. These things are there most of the time at Jasper. But with the dullness of many other things this time of year, these details seemed to flurish.
