This morning I decided to check out one of the places I had saved during one of my evenings of Google Earth recon of my area. It is usually against a nature photographer’s better judgement to head to any new place during good light – you typically want to do this scouting during unfavorable shooting conditions. But, I decided to take the chance anyway, it was fairly close to home, and I did have a “PLAN B” if this didn’t pan out.

This place seemed like it might have some possibilities. It looked like a small lake / marsh area, that is just off our larger Lake St. Clair. Given it is early May, I was thinking it might be a good spot for some migrating birds. Unfortunately, I found out this is private property, and very well marked with no trespassing signs. It still looks interesting though, perhaps I will never know for sure. I headed from here to a nearby park that some birders tend to visit now and then (PLAN B), hoping to salvage what I had wasted so far in morning light. Other than a short hike through the woods, that also turned out to be uneventful. My camera never left the bag.
I have taught myself over the years to accept the times when you do come home empty handed, it is just part of nature photography sometimes. But when you have limited time to be out, you can’t help feeling a bit disappointed. So, Plan C = come home and work on some older images. 🙂

Coming home empty handed is still something I can’t get used to. I’ll remember this post next time that happens.
