Moving Mist : fog crosses a lake in early morning as the sun attempts to break through and reveal the details
This is always an interesting time of year. Flowers are not quite ready to bloom yet except for the very early daredevils. Winter isn’t sure if it wants to release its control. Michigan seems to go through a time of confusion, as if just starting to wake up from a 4 month sleep. Just this past weekend we had the last day of Winter that was 25 degrees warmer than the first day of Spring.
But with interesting weather, there is typically interesting light. This image was actually exposed in 2006 around this time of year, and I just recently reprocessed it. I was thinking about this waking up from a very long sleep where the details around you are not so clear. It takes awhile to get your bearings straight, to let the fog pass through and lift away.

Mark, it’s always a pleasure to return to your site; I never leave uninspired! Love this image in particular.
Thank you Diane!
That foggy mist is so ethereal and beautiful…
Thanks Amber.
Oops, I am behind in thanking each one of you for your comments. So thanks!
Lana, Paul, Bernie, I am sure it will be here soon as well, but we have had snow in May, so I won’t hold my breath. 🙂 You southerner’s make me jealous sometimes.
Tom, glad you took the time to comment, and thanks. I would have liked a heron in mine! 🙂
Mark, I’ve been visiting for a while and never commented before today. You stopped me in my tracks with this one. At first glance, because of the fog and the gold tones on the right, it brought to mind a photo of mine, taken on the Chassahowitzka River in Florida, last February. While the river photo has a barren tree stretching from the right side out over the water, with a Great Blue Heron perched near its end, the similarities are remarkable.
You nailed the exposure on this one (of course) but as you know + or – exposure makes a huge difference in these foggy images.
I’m fast becoming a regular and use your images as motivation to get out more.
Thanks
Nice act of balance between the bank of fog and the tree. Shows how an unconventional composition can work. Well done!
I love mysterious images like this.
That is beautiful!
I love the warm light and the coolness in the fog, a beautiful contrast for sure, I finally got out yesterday as you saw and it felt great !!
You will get there soon I am sure !!
Mark, spring is not confused here. We’ve already cracked the mid-70 degree mark and the daffodils are in full glory.
Great shot (& nice words to go along with it.) Spring IS coming. 🙂
Beautiful light and colors in this. I too love the light of Spring and Fall.
Mark, I love the fog with the warm tones — beautiful photo. I use to travel to Michigan regularly, Battle Creek and surrounding areas, for business and I would usually experience a slight shift in seasonal patterns between here (NC) and there. We’ve had real spring here in this last week so I can assure you it’s on it’s way! 😉
Beautiful dreamy image. Hopefully everything will be green and full of life again.
