O is for Order

Dawn redwood cones

Dawn Redwood cones and pine needles

A demanding word for this entry in the AtoZ Challenge.   A command to be given in a disruly courtroom, posed as a question in a restaurant, the organization of books in a library, a clean kept yard.   Yeah, we humans like our order.   No wonder we have so many conflicts with nature.

Or is it because we can’t understand the order presented to us?  Is it simply a matter of scale?  Is there order in a mountain range, or the waves of the ocean?  What about order of the universe?   Nature actually has examples of it everywhere.  We certainly have our preconceptions of what order should be, and some of us more tolerant of the “lack” of it than others.   I wish I had answers, I could sell books!

Too much order can be boring, too little can be unnerving.   That is a balancing game I think most photographers play when making photographs.   One must play a little to each edge to deterimine your personal limits.

p.s.  Something that is out-of-order is my CommentLuv plugin.   So for those of you familiar with it, and see it with your comments, and wonder why your links don’t appear after posting – that is a very good question!!  It’s broke, out-of-order.  🙂 I have reached my limit in trying to figure it out.   I suspect some update in my WordPress theme broke it, but I don’t know how to fix it.

Fusion Series

Fusion Series

The Fusion Series is a pairing of my fondness for playing with multiple exposures with the aspects of connectivity in nature. With spring wildflower season well underway, it is important to remember a wildflower doesn't exist in isolation. It is a product of the soil...

In honor of 2022-02-22 or 22-02-2022 but certainly not the bizarre order of 02-22-2022 (apparently we Americans don't do metric and we can't get our dates in a logical order like the rest of the world), published at 22:22 ET - here are some photographs celebrating the...

Elementals

My mind is and has been, toying with a concept for quite a long time now. It is difficult to put in words, let alone imagery. It is the concept of the dynamic dichotomy that exists around us with destruction vs. protection, life vs. death, forest vs. trees, assembly...

I’ve often thought the manicured yard origin probably comes from the same motivation pool as when people use to dress up to fly on airplanes or go out in public. But have you flown lately… LOL

I echo Monte’s sentiments on this photo. It would make an excellent wall hanging…too bad I no longer have any large open wall space! 🙂

Thanks Brooks. I no longer have any wall space either in my land-locked home. 🙂 But maybe I will still print it large someday, maybe a client will order it.

Yes, nature has order in the chaos, while society seems to always be in chaos. I smile when I see how we landscape in comparison to what nature does. As I simplify my life with less stuff I also eliminate chaos. My gosh, I love that image. Have you made a print of it?

I haven’t printed it yet Monte. It does fall on the long list of photos I have wanted to print. I think it would be cool.

I do wonder the origins of our wanting manicured yards. Is it our desire to control nature? Does it come from farming?
