“We adore chaos because we love to produce order.” ~ M.C.Escher

I always loved M.C.Escher’s pieces when I was a kid, and not quite sure why I thought of him when photographing these leaves.   Perhaps it is related to the endless exploration one can do just looking at the details of a leaf pile raked in your yard, much like one can endlessly stare at his works.   Fall colors for 2016 are now past, and I can honestly say I probably photographed more of these symbols of nature as they lie on the ground vs. attached to their branches.   I don’t feel like I missed a thing, and there are still some left to explore!

A Leaf’s Journey

A Leaf’s Journey

It feels like 27°F (- 2 °C). That's what I woke up to this morning, looking at the weather on my phone. As meteorological autumn wraps up its final days, the record warmth we've been experiencing in Michigan is over as we prepare for another seasonal transition. While...

Frozen Food

Yep! This is a post about frozen food. Just what you expected from this blog eh? It's not quite the Salisbury steak dinner or pizza rolls you may be considering now, but indeed frozen food. When I took our dogs out this morning, we had a pretty good overnight frost....

Well done, Mark. I to find myself looking down during the fall season at nature’s art. I also enjoy the sound of walking on these leaves. I used to wonder what others thought when watching me as I studied the patterns, colors and shapes. But not anymore.

I love the way these images were processed. They seem to glow and have a three dimensionality that really make them look like they are popping off the page. Makes me want to jump in and explore the arrangements. I think they would really make a pretty cool mini series!

Thanks Howard. I am experimenting with this look lately, and hope to assemble it into a project portfolio of some type. Good thing I can do it in the privacy of my backyard to avoid the strange looks I would get when people see me working a pile of raked leaves. 🙂
